The most proven and guaranteed way to get maximum oxidation without too much heat. This is an updated version of our violin kit with extra parts to make building your system even easier.

1. Four Solacure SG-1-40 FR40T12 lamps (4 foot long, 1.5" thick)
2. One Workhorse WH7 high frequency ballast (~42w per lamp at 100,000hz, equals 60w of a regular ballast)
3. Eight flush mount lamp holders (shunted), plus one spare
4. Hardware includes screws to mount lamp holders and ballast, plus shims for ballast.
5. Spare wire to chain lamp ends.
6. Ground wire.
7. Six foot power cable plus strain relief to surface or hole mount.
8. Electrical connectors to hook it all together.
9. One pair of clear, UV glasses, for safety.
Basically, it is everything except the fixture to mount it to, which you custom build for your application.



Like all SG lamps, the SG-1- 24" has a built in reflector. Regular lamps (shown left) emit light in all directions, but almost all reflectors will absorb the UV instead of reflect it. By putting in a special reflective coating INSIDE the lamp (right), we can reflect the UV back to the project, before it even has a chance to pass through the glass. The result is up to 50% more UV output on your project. Add that to the superior output and patented technology inside, and you have twice the functional power when compared to any ordinary UV lamp. Patented, tested and proven.
While you could run these lamps on the more expensive SunHorse ballast, we choose the Workhorse ballast for this particular application because it creates about half the heat, but is only 28% weaker in output. And it makes the lamps last longer as well. Most will prefer this setup for custom violin builders because it is safer to work with, temperature wise, thus more suited to custom instrument building as the risk of drying out the wood is lower. It is often used in combination with a humidifier to guarantee best results.

This kit is also fine for any UV curing application that is more heat sensitive, and where thermal characteristics are more important than absolute speed. Keep in mind, this is still a fast rig, just not as fast as if you used the SunHorse ballast. For best results, the ballast should be mounted outside of the UV chamber, so it can radiate excess heat away from the violin.

Other applications include pool cues, fishing lures and other small or delicate items where you want to limit the amount of heat generated by using moderate power instead of a VHO configuration (very high output).
